Pennsylvania’s school libraries provide students with opportunities to become critical seekers of knowledge, users of technology, and independent life-long learners in the global society of the Information Age.

School library information professionals provide instruction in information management and retrieval skills at all levels, primary through high school. The library’s collection, including print, non-print, electronic, and media materials, as well as network access, supports the curriculum of the entire school district.

The school library information program is an integral part of the total curriculum. It develops in students the ability to identify, locate, retrieve, organize, evaluate, and apply information.

These information management skills are taught functionally as they relate to the needs, interests, and activities of the students.
